covid-19 infections in ottawa showed a slight drop in recent days, but experts say people should remain cautious.
ottawa public health reported 130 new confirmed cases and two new deaths during the period ending feb. 12.
last week, there had been 144 new cases and five additional deaths reported.
this week’s reading brought the total number of ottawa cases to 98,089 since the pandemic began in 2020, while 1,224 people have died.

ottawa public health’s weekly respiratory infections dashboard showed 14 new hospitalizations for flu patients in the week ending feb. 17, for a total of 187 this season. the report described flu levels as very high and increasing since the previous week.

the report showed 38 new hospitalizations for covid-19, for a total of 1,043, and two more hospitalizations for respiratory syncytial virus (rsv). the covid-19 and rsv results were described as “moderate and decreasing from last week.”
percent positivity levels for testing were 13.9 per cent of all tests for flu (moderate and similar to last week), 8.6 per cent for covid-19 (low and decreasing from last week) and 1.7 for rsv (low and similar to last week.)
wastewater surveillance levels for flu continued to be very high, while levels for covid-19 were low.

there were three new outbreaks of covid-19 in long-term care facilities, for a total of eight ongoing outbreaks. there was one new outbreak of rsv, with four ongoing outbreaks, and no new outbreaks for flu, with one ongoing.
