the dozens of boeing 737 max 9 planes that had been grounded in the u.s. have caused minimal impact at vancouver international airport.
in a statement tuesday, a yvr spokesperson said just one airline had been affected locally, after a terrifying incident friday when a door-shaped plug used to fill in an unused, optional emergency exit came off the aircraft of an alaska airlines’ flight a few minutes after takeoff from portland, ore.
the flight landed safely but prompted u.s. regulators to ground a number of 737 max 9 jets and ordered safety checks over the weekend.
“this directive affects one airline at yvr, which is aeromexico,” the statement read.
it’s unclear what that impact means locally or if any boeing aircraft are currently grounded at yvr under the order from the u.s. federal aviation administration. however, historical flight data shows that the aeromexico flight between mexico city and vancouver landed early tuesday with a boeing 737-8 max plane instead of the max 9 plane.
“we will continue to closely monitor the situation and work with our airline partners as they determine how to address any impacts from the grounding,” the statement continues. “as always, we recommend passengers check with their airlines for current flight schedules and status.”
