ottawa public health is investigating a possible exposure to tuberculosis at sacred heart high school in stittsville that could have affected dozens of students and staff.
the public health unit sent letters to students and staff this week warning about the possible exposure at the school between november 2022 and october 2023. during that time, it was not known there was a risk for tuberculosis in the school, associate medical officer of health dr. robin taylor said in a statement. the letters included testing options and information for parents.
ottawa public health is following up directly with 115 individuals who may have been exposed to tuberculosis at the school, said taylor. the investigation is ongoing. the health unit has also notified the broader school population notifying them of the investigation involving sacred heart high school.
ottawa public health says it is continuing to work with school administration and staff to provide support and information for youth as well as their parents and guardians. it says it is not aware of any person who is currently infectious with tuberculosis who is attending or working at sacred heart high school.
