an 80-year-old canadian woman who suffers from alzheimer’s disease was sexually assaulted and raped by another guest at a resort in the bahamas, according to her son.
the woman, who has not been named, was on vacation with her daughter last month at the warwick hotel paradise island when the horrific attack allegedly took place, her son david ahrens wrote on social media.

“rape is never ok,” ahrens’ linkedin post began.

“on jan. 28, at the warwick hotel in nassau, bahamas, my 80-year-old mother, who is a grandmother and great-grandmother, and who has alzheimer’s, was sexually assaulted and raped by a guest at the hotel.”
the realtor went on to identify the 61-year-old alleged assailant from nova scotia.
“he is currently in bahamian prison without the chance of bail, pending trial,” he wrote.
“those of you who know my mom, know that she is incredibly loving and so very special to us and our extended family,” he continued.
“we are dealing with the shock and are horrified at this incident,” he wrote, adding that the family decided to go public to warn other travellers abroad to be careful with their vulnerable loved ones.

global affairs is aware of the incident, ctv reported.
“my mom is back home safe and her attitude is that she wants to leave it behind her and move forward,” ahrens wrote. “she is a warrior.”

he also launched a gofundme page to cover any medical, legal and out-of-pocket expenses related to dealing with the incident.

about a week before the alleged attack, two kentucky moms claimed they were raped while vacationing in the island country.

the royal bahama police force said in a feb. 4 statement that officers arrested two men in connection with those alleged attacks.
