a $36-million lottery ticket purchased in florida is now worthless.
michelle griner of florida lottery told people that no one has come forward to claim the mega millions prize before the feb. 11 deadline.
if taken immediately as cash, the ticket would have paid out $18.9 million.
the winning quick pick ticket was bought at a publix supermarket in jacksonville on aug. 15, 2023. the winning numbers were 18, 39, 42, 57, 63 and the mega ball number was 7.
florida lottery will transfer 80% of the unclaimed winnings to to a trust fund for education and the rest will be put back into the prize pool.
the winning florida ticket was the only mega millions prize to go unclaimed last year.
there were 10 winning mega millions prizes in 2023, including $1.348 billion on jan. 13, $483 million on april 14, and $1.602 billion on aug. 15.
mega millions winners can either choose a one-time, lump-sum payment or 30 annual deposits, with each payment 5% larger than the previous one.
