as a political junkie, i read the opinion pieces regularly. lately, these writers seem badly out of touch with albertans and the political winds. i recommend that they escape their bubbles and dig to understand why voters are leaning further right. they could also quit the unprofessional labelling, as using terms like “extremists” and “trumpian” to label right-leaning conservatives smacks of elitism and seems intentionally propagandist.
yes, many albertans are leaning right. we see the failures of progressive policies, which have led to hyperinflation and the promotion of special-interest groups while the majority of citizens see their needs get pushed aside and their quality of life deteriorate.advertisement
many albertans got vaccinated but didn’t agree with the mandates. unfortunately, commentators like rob breakenridge have decided to categorize this libertarian view as “extremism.” many albertans believe that we have a government waste problem, not a revenue problem, but that too gets labelled as being “irresponsible.” albertans understand that tunnel-vision climate change policies have led to economic harm, bullying from ottawa and the promotion of dictators such as putin at the expense of world security and human rights.
albertans are intelligent people who critically evaluate government instead of blindly following glass-tower idealists. our political discussion deserves the recognition of this reality, instead of scorn and ridicule from left-leaning journalists. todd tanasichuk, st paul, alta.
