happy, merry holidays
i noted with interest on sunday that multiple media outlets highlighted that hanukkah started on sunday. glaringly absent in any announcements though was any mention that sunday was also the first day of advent, which comes from the latin adventus meaning arrival, or coming and is the four-week period leading up to the christmas season.
so whichever season one celebrates, wishing everyone happy hanukkah, happy advent, season’s greetings or whichever works for you.

re: how calgary’s northeast achieved canada’s best covid-19 vaccine rates, nov. 27
while the challenges, frustrations, hardships and pain that covid-19 has wrought upon us seem to never end, there are many points of hope and cause for celebration now and then. the story of the remarkable success of calgary’s northeast communities to achieve some of the highest vaccination rates in all of canada, not just alberta, is truly commendable and worth acknowledging and celebrating.
over 99.2 per cent of those eligible for the vaccine have been vaccinated. a grassroots coalition involving more than 250 organizations, comprised of mostly volunteers with limited funding, made this minor miracle happen.
