a new ad suggests the expos would have played in montreal if only brady had chosen baseball over football.

how do you pass the time if you’re retired and divorced?
if you’re tom brady, the answer appears to be baiting long-suffering montreal expos fans.

the former nfl quarterback, who was drafted by the montreal expos as a catcher in the 18th round in 1995 , shared an ad on tuesday that imagines how things would have gone if he’d stuck to baseball.

set in a bar, the ad features fans reminiscing about brady’s exploits as the man himself is seen pitching his car dealership to expos fans.
newspaper clippings on the wall document achievements like hitting 649 home runs and being named mvp three times.
what, did you really think tom brady would imagine an alternate universe where he’s not a winner?
keen expos fans will notice a cameo from former expos stars pedro martinez, vladimir guerrero (sr.) and larry walker. (keen expos fans may also notice that the accent work in the ad is all over the place.)
this is where we get to the gut punch: “without him, they would have moved us out of montreal,” a viewer observes.
rub it in, why don’t you?

then tom brady wakes up — at noon, which doesn’t scan for a man with such well-publicized sleeping habits — to discover it was only a dream. queue the pitch for topps’s 2023 bowman draft autographed card set featuring brady’s first-ever baseball card.

as far as product endorsements go, it’s probably less disastrous than his deal with now-bankrupt cryptocurrency firm ftx .

eli manning, who led the two new york giants teams to beat brady’s patriots in the super bowl, also took part in the campaign. the quarterback turned espn analyst posted a video of himself on x (formerly known as twitter) in a san francisco giants jersey sharing his “favourite moment” from brady’s career: beating him for two championships.
 
this is just brady’s latest tease.
“excited to announce we’re bringing the expos back to the mlb in 2022,” he tweeted on april fool’s day in 2021.
last year, he shared a video of himself in a batting cage and asked if the expos would have him back. and he had nostalgic fans in a frenzy earlier this year when he showed up at a topps event wearing a no. 12 expos jersey.
perhaps the biggest sign that tom brady might actually be an expos fan is that he can’t move on.
