now that covid-19 no longer dominates the headlines, i spend most of my time writing about business and economic topics for the gazette. i joined the paper in 2019 after more than two decades with the bloomberg news agency, whose montreal bureau i opened following stints in new york and paris. in a previous life i was a freelance rock critic, won two magazine awards and once worked as an extra for the opéra de montréal’s production of ludwig van beethoven’s fidelio.
