saskatchewan hit another pandemic milestone on sunday with 4,864 active cases reported in the province. the previous high was 4,763 cases, reported on dec. 7, 2020.
the province announced 552 new confirmed cases sunday, and three deaths, bringing the seven-day average of new cases to 478. on saturday 492 new cases, and three deaths were recorded. no location or age information was available for the deaths.
the medical system continues to come under pressure with 281 people currently in hospital with coronavirus, and 63 of them in icu, with just under 90 per cent of those in hospital not fully vaccinated, according to the province.
sunday’s announcement brings the total number of cases in the province to 65,501, a 23 per cent increase over the past month. of those, 59,967 are considered recovered. just over one quarter of the new cases sunday were in people aged 20 to 39.
vaccination uptake continues to increase with 3,893 doses given out on sunday, and 5,017 shots delivered saturday, meaning 1,546,180 people are now fully vaccinated in the province.
on sept. 16 the province announced that proof of vaccination or a negative covid-19 test would be required to access many non-essential services and for all government and crown employees starting oct. 1.
