alberta is looking at a lottery or other incentives to encourage people to get a vaccine, according to the premier.
“i asked the department of health to come forward with options on incentives, including the possible lottery, for people getting vaccinated,” he said.
“i know that when ohio led the pack on this about three, four weeks back, there was a lot of ridicule directed towards them, but they saw an immediate and huge uptick in vaccination rates.”
any lottery would include everyone who has already had their first dose, hinshaw said.
178 new cases
another 178 cases of covid-19 were found in alberta, hinshaw said at the news conference. the positivity rate was about 3.3 per cent after 5,501 tests.
“this encouraging trend is important to maintain, which is why as we move into stage 2 today, it remains critical for all of us to follow all of the public health measures,” hinshaw said.
hospitalizations from covid-19 were also down to 306 including 81 in icu. active cases province-wide dropped to 3,810, including 1,028 and 1,523 in the edmonton and calgary zones, respectively.
six more people have died from the disease in alberta for a total of 2,262 fatalities.
