b.c. ministry of health calls on snowbirds to register, vaccinated or not

once someone’s record is updated, they will receive an invitation to book their second dose when they are eligible.

the b.c. government is calling on all returning snowbirds to register through the get vaccinated system regardless of whether they are fully vaccinated, partly vaccinated or not at all.

in a prepared statement, the ministry of health said “every eligible person should register through the get vaccinated system.”

this can be done by phoning 1-833-838-2323 or visiting a service b.c. centre and advising the agent of their vaccination status.
“if someone has received one or more doses of covid-19 vaccine outside of b.c., they can have it recorded in the provincial immunization registry so there is a record of their vaccination status,” the ministry wrote. “ahead of reporting a vaccination, people should gather as much information about their immunization as possible.”
this includes which vaccine they have received, when and where.
once someone’s record is updated, they will receive an invitation to book their second dose when they are eligible. if they have not been vaccinated they will be booked in right away. if they are fully vaccinated that information will be on the record in b.c.
last week, sfu professor valorie crooks — who studies snowbirds — called for government outreach and guidance for returning snowbirds around vaccination, given many have received one or two doses in the u.s. there are an estimated 375,000 people in canada who live half the year in canada and the rest in the u.s. or mexico.

in response to crooks’ comments, several people contacted postmedia to register their concerns.
snowbird dixie woodcock told postmedia that she had been fully vaccinated in california (on mar 18 and april 9) and returned to canada on may 14.
she called the vaccine line twice (1-833-838-2323) last week and when she got through she was told that her vaccination information could not be recorded and was transferred to service b.c.
from there she was told to contact vancouver coastal health where an agent told her to send her vaccination information (name, address, date of birth, picture of vaccination card and personal health number) to 520reception@vch.ca.
woodcock said she has done this and has not heard back.
