a surrey poultry plant has been ordered to temporarily close because of a covid-19 outbreak.
the fraser health authority says 29 staff members have tested positive for the virus at sunrise poultry processors ltd., a poultry processing plant at 13542 73a avenue.
public health has issued a closure order for 10 days effective may 7.
health officials say they will continue to monitor for additional cases, and case and contact management is ongoing. those identified as cases and close contacts have been instructed to self-isolate.
the canadian food inspection agency has said there is no evidence to suggest that food is a likely source or route of transmission for the virus.
at this time, fraser health says there have been no reported cases of food or food packaging being associated with the transmission of covid-19 and there is no recall of chicken products distributed from this plant.
meantime saturday, fraser health declared covid-19 outbreaks over at surrey memorial hospital and at dufferin care centre in coquitlam.
