new coronavirus cases in ottawa and ontario
ontario reported 3,166 cases of covid-19 on friday, a dip from the day before, but still above 3,000 for the second day in a row after two days of numbers below that threshold.
the hot spots continue to be toronto, with 876 new cases, followed by peel with 817, york with 300, durham with 205 and hamilton with 148.
ottawa public health reported 110 new cases on friday and one new death. the city now has 1,553 active cases. covid-19 has claimed 520 lives.
there are 88 people in ottawa hospitals, and 25 in intensive care.
oph reported one new outbreak in health-care institutions for a total of 20 and one new community outbreak for a total of seven.
in regions around ottawa, the eastern ontario health unit reported 15 new cases for a total of 4,370; kingston, frontenac and lennox & addington added 18 new cases for a total of 1,377; leeds grenville & lanark district reported one new case for a total of 1,659; and renfrew county reported five new cases for a total of 620.
the province currently has 41,884 active cases of the disease.
as of 8 p.m. thursday, the province had administered 5,885,485 vaccination doses, health minister christine elliott tweeted. the province completed more than 51,300 tests on thursday.
