alberta also had the highest percentage of people who said their trust had been eroded a lot in the federal government at 40 per cent.
andrew enns, a vice-president with leger, said the results regarding trust were troubling because they came just as the government was trying to do a last push to eliminate the virus.
“there’s some really critical messaging coming from the federal and provincial governments and various health authorities about getting vaccinated and the need to just hang in there for another month or two on these public health orders to try to get through this third wave,” he said. “there would be some challenges in terms of getting that message to stick.”
the poll also looked at trust erosion for dr. theresa tam, canada’s chief public health officer, which has eroded either a little or a lot among 46 per cent of canadians.
but provincial public health institutions, led by the chief medical officers, also took a hit with almost half of canadians (49%) saying they had lost trust in them.
people also have less trust in the health care system (44%) and 30 per cent of people said their trust in science had eroded.
almost a third of people said they had lost trust in their neighbours.
