from ontario public health.
according to the report, severe outcomes are a “lagging indicator,” which means these results often occur days or weeks after the initial
covid-19 case is reported. people over the age of 80 continue to be at the highest risk for hospitalization and death compared to other age groups.
covid-19 cases continued to increase in 25 of 34 public health units in ontario, as did the positive testing rate — up to 14.8 per cent this week from 14.6 last week. hospitalizations for covid-19 were down to 402 case this week, from 507 last week.
in manitoba, five patient deaths
associated with covid-19 occurred last week, compared to three the week before. eight people were also admitted to the icu, compared to two the week before.
similar to ontario, manitoba saw a decrease in hospitalizations due to covid, down to 45 from 52 the week before, but an increase in the positive test rate — 17.1 per cent, compared to 13.9 the week before.
