“our sports pub crowd is ready to go but there’s a lot of people still scared about it — i understand there’s still an uneasy feeling,” said shupenia, who operates side street pub at 1167 kensington cres. n.w.
even so, with covid-19 numbers of all kinds falling and vaccinations picking up, shupenia said he’s confident there’s no going back.
“i don’t think we’ll ever shut down again — in my head, this thing’s done,” he said.
the city’s hair salons were also seeing a light at the end of a long, dark tunnel as customers — though by appointment only for now — began flocking back.
“customers are coming in with their hands in the air, saying ‘we’re here,’ ” said hayat fouani, a staffer at edges salon and spa at 400 crowfoot cres.
“it’s so exciting — people need this, it’s their life.”
those businesses are on schedule to welcome walk-in customers within two weeks.
fouani said she fully expects that to happen but adds some concerns remain after such a roller-coaster ride.
“will it last is the question everyone is asking . . . we’re crossing our fingers,” she said.
“i think it should.”
some of the province’s physicians have voiced concern that the reopening plan is too quick, particularly with 10.4 per cent of albertans fully vaccinated.
