on friday, alberta reported 98 new cases of covid-19 and there are 799 active cases of the virus across the province. however, according to alberta health, the 98 cases are only a net increase after some cases mistakenly logged twice were removed from the provincial database. in total 173 cases were identified friday.
two more deaths raised the provincial death toll to 2,322.
ninety-six new cases of covid-19 variants of concern were also identified friday. of those, 89 were of the delta variant, five were of the gamma variant, and the alpha and beta variants each had one new case.
as of end-of-day thursday, 5,157,947 doses of covid-19 vaccine have been administered in alberta, an increase of 29,596.
of eligible albertans aged 12 and older, 75.2 per cent have received at least one dose or 63.9 per cent of the total population. in comparison, 62 per cent of eligible albertans are fully vaccinated with two doses, or 52.7 per cent of the total population.
