parents who drove their kids to the muskoka woods camp in rosseau, ontario on sunday were told to immediately rush back to pick them up, after the camp declared that a covid outbreak had expanded.
sherry mae guthrie had dropped her son beckett, 12, off at about 3 p.m.
he was there for all of four hours.
“beckett called me and said, ‘there’s covid,’ and of course i thought he was joking,” guthrie said monday.
“he wasn’t joking. i talked to the counsellor. (the) counsellor said, ‘i’m really sorry, if you could come and get him.’”
and that’s what she did.
the night before they arrived, the camp had informed parents of a cohort of cases. when another case was discovered outside of the original cohort, the camp sent an email alerting parents of the shutdown.
“at the arrival, we mentioned to each of you that muskoka woods was in an outbreak situation due to a number of positive cases in one cohort,” read an email from john mcauley, president and ceo, and chris tompkins, executive director and coo.
“we are requesting that all guests are picked up as soon as possible. if you are not able to return this evening, we are asking that you plan to come back on monday, aug. 2 by noon.”
guthrie picked up her son sunday at 9 p.m.
