ontario reported 2,362 new cases of covid-19 on friday, driving down the seven-day average in the province to 2,616 daily cases.
dr. david williams, the province’s chief medical officer of health, reiterated thursday that daily case counts have to be “well below” 1,000 before before the province is ready to significantly ease restrictions.
in terms of active cases, the hardest-hit regions are currently peel (486 cases per 100,000 people), toronto (342), niagara region (207), and durham (207). ottawa, comparatively, has 134 active cases per 100,000.
friday’s new case total included 99 in ottawa, 18 in eastern ontario, nine in
kingston, frontenac and lennox & addington, and two in
renfrew county and district. there was no change reported in the number of cases confirmed in
leeds, grenville & lanark.
ottawa public health reports statistics later in the day. they can differ from provincial tallies because the data are collected at different times
the number of hospitalized covid-19 patients in ontario dropped by 50 in the last day, for a total of 1,582. those in icu due to covid-19, including those no longer testing positive, now number 777, one more than the previous week.
