ontario reports 513 new covid cases, no new deaths

according to public health ontario, 71.4 per cent of the new cases were among unvaccinated patients.
it’s the highest case total since mid-june and is based on 22,896 tests done in the previous day.
toronto, with 105 new cases, york, with 70, and peel, with 64, were the province’s worst-hit regions.
the new figures raise ontario’s total number of covid cases since january 2020 to 553,962 and its death toll to 9,412.
there are 12,280 active cases in the province.
of 156 newly reported cases involving variants of concern, 148 were identified as delta cases. nine additional alpha cases were identified, while the total of gamma cases dropped by one.
meanwhile, there are 116 covid patients currently in ontario hospitals. there are 113 patients in icu with covid-related illnesses, 83 of them diagnosed with covid. there are 76 patients on ventilators with covid-related illnesses, 53 of them currently with covid.
of the most recently reported hospitalizations, 72.1 per cent involved unvaccinated patients.
additionally, 49,167 vaccine doses were administered in the province in the 24-hour period ending wednesday evening, for a province-wide total of 20,047,911. a total of 9,456,663 ontarians have been fully vaccinated, an increase of 38,031 over the previous day’s total.

there were 20 new confirmed cases in ottawa, according to public health ontario, bringing the city’s total to 27,909 since the pandemic’s start. due to different data-collection times, those figures may not match those issued later in the day by ottawa public health.
in other health units in the region, the eastern ontario health unit saw its confirmed case numbers go up by 14, while kingston’s increased by one.
leeds, grenville and lanark reported two new cases while renfrew county had none.
meanwhile, finance minister peter bethlenfalvy announced thursday that ontario is putting an additional $2.2 billion toward covid-19 spending, amid ongoing uncertainty about variants of concern.
he released the province’s 2021-22 first quarter finances, and says it’s important to have resources available to prepare for potential future surges in the pandemic.
bethlenfalvy didn’t specify what the $2.2 billion in new spending would go toward, saying it’s available for the government to use to protect people’s health and the economy as needed.
