ontario’s covid-19 case count jumped again wednesday, with 458 people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
health minister christine elliott said on twitter that 309 of the cases are in unvaccinated individuals and 41 in partially vaccinated individuals.
on tuesday, ontario reported 348 new cases, a sharp drop after steady increases in the province’s daily case counts. however, the province noted that a “data cleanup” resulted in more than 100 cases in long-term care homes being removed from the ontario database.
on wednesday, there were 174 people in hospital with the virus, 160 of them not fully vaccinated or with an unknown vaccination status. fourteen patients were fully vaccinated.
the minister said that the intensive care data is not available due to technical issues.
there were three new deaths and 345 cases were resolved.
the province has had 556,920 cases and 9,431 deaths since the pandemic began.
ottawa reported 19 new cases, according to the province. ottawa public health reports its numbers later in the day which can differ from provincial stats because the data are pulled at different times of the day.
in health units in the ottawa region: eastern ontario health reported seven new cases, kingston had two, as did leeds, grenville, lanark. there were no new cases reported in renfrew city and county.
