quebec health minister christian dubé flagged his concern over the recent increase in hospitalizations as the province reported 995 new covid-19 cases and three more deaths on saturday.
“we expected this with the start of the school year,” dubé wrote on twitter in regards to the rise in case numbers. “what concerns us, among other things, are the new hospitalizations.”
thirty-six people were hospitalized on friday for covid-19. among them, 30 hadn’t been vaccinated or only received their first dose within the last two weeks. two people had received their first dose more than 14 days ago, and four people had only received their second dose within the last week.
the total hospitalization count is 218, an increase of 11 since friday. of those patients, 75 are in intensive care, an increase of three
compared with the previous day
.
as for the new cases, 702 of them are people who haven’t been vaccinated or only received their first dose within the last two weeks. seventy of them had received their first dose more than 14 days ago, and 223 had only received their second dose within the last week.
“the good news is that vaccination for the first dose continues,” dubé wrote. he added that, with more than 8,000 first doses administered the day before, 88 per cent of the province’s population aged 12 and older have now received at least one dose of the vaccine.
