canada’s standardized federal vaccine passport for travellers will be available starting oct. 30, but b.c. travellers will need, for a
while
, to carry two proof-of-vaccination cards, a provincial one for local services and a federal one for travel.
there are, in the meantime, some other snafus that need ironing out, according to some travellers.
new westminister-resident charles wangersky recently returned to yvr with his wife and son after a trip to florida for a family funeral.
they had all completed the testing requirements and were carrying proof of full vaccination issued by b.c. wangersky and his wife had their paper cards, while their son, nick, had a digital version with the qr code.
wangersky said a canada border services agency (cbsa) officer issued him and his wife forms with instructions to self-monitor since florida is a hot spot.
however, wangersky said the officer gave his adult son an order to self-quarantine for two weeks as he didn’t have a scanner to read the qr code.
“there was a great deal of back and forth, trying to find his records with his personal care number, but in the end, they left him with a form to quarantine for two weeks,” said wangersky. “basically, he’s supposed to have absolutely no contact with anyone, until his two weeks are up.”
