vaccinated canadians have little sympathy for the non-vaxxed who go on to get covid-19, a new angus reid institute poll has found.
angus reid also noted that one in five people aren’t wearing masks routinely even though the majority of canadians support this public health measure to reduce the spread of covid-19.
the same poll revealed as well that while the supporters of all major federal political parties support some form of mandatory vaccination, a full one-third of conservative party voters want the government to back off.
the pollster said the issue is making itself felt in the federal election campaign where the liberals have attempted to differentiate themselves from the conservatives.
the upshot? most (canadians) support some use of either carrot or stick – though more prefer the stick – to increase inoculation rates as a fourth wave of the pandemic threatens to further delay a return to some semblance of pre-pandemic normalcy,” angus reid said in a statement tuesday.
“the major contrast is among those who say government should do nothing to encourage increased vaccination. while it is the minority view among supporters of the liberals and ndp (seven and 12% respectively), this sentiment represents fully one-third of conservative supporters (33%).”
