philadelphia flyers forward, sean couturier, is expected to miss training camp and as much as a few months of the upcoming season after suffering a herniated disc during off ice training.
with the nhl season set to start on oct. 11, couturier could be sidelined until mid december after reportedly injuring his back during a training session at the start of september.
anthony sanfilippo of crossing broad, a philly sports website, was the first to break the news about courtier’s most recent injury on twitter.
danny briere, an executive for the flyers, said he spoke to couturier the morning of the injury, who downplayed its severity. briere added he initially thought the reports of a herniated disc were a hoax, given the conversation the two had earlier that day.
“he’s been so gung-ho about feeling great and training harder this summer and being ready to go,” briere told

. “and (monday) morning he said, ‘i’ve got a little tightness today, but a couple more days and i’ll be fine.’”
couturier is no stranger to back injuries — in february, he underwent back surgery for what was described as an “upper-body injury.”

was told the flyers are hoping to have couturier back on the ice in six to eight weeks, but it is possible the forward will be on the bench for much longer.
the team is also seeking a second opinion to determine exactly what the injury is, according to
