labrum

the labrum, or labral cartilage, is a ring of fibrous cartilage found in the shoulder and hip joints. it forms a "cup" that helps stabilize the joint and keep the bones of the joint in place.

the labrum can be damaged by overuse, a fall, a crash, or another injury to the joint. a damaged labrum usually is treated with rest, physiotherapy, and medicines to reduce pain and swelling. but more serious damage may require surgery.
