'pray for me': justin bieber struggling to eat after suffering facial paralysis due to ramsay hunt syndrome

'been getting progressively harder to eat, which has been extremely frustrating,' pop star shared

justin bieber has revealed that he is suffering from partial facial paralysis after being diagnosed with ramsay hunt syndrome.

earlier this week, bieber cancelled three shows, including two nights at toronto’s scotiabank arena , and the pop star offered a health update on friday.

“hey everyone. justin here. i wanted to update you guys on what’s been going on,” he said in a instagram video . “obviously, as you can probably see from my face, i have this syndrome called ramsay hunt syndrome and it is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis.”

bieber then demonstrated how he couldn’t blink out of one eye. “i can’t smile with this side of my face, this nostril will not move, so there is full paralysis in this side of my face,” he added.

the baby singer addressed fans who were miffed that he postponed this week’s shows, saying, “i’m just physically, obviously not capable of doing them.”

bieber went on to call his case “pretty serious.”
“i wish this wasn’t the case but obviously, my body is telling me i got to slow down and i hope you guys understand and i’ll be using this time to rest and relax and get back to 100% so that i can do what i was born to do.”

recovery ranges anywhere from a few weeks to longer, depending on the severity of the illness. the london, ont.-born singer said he will be “getting his rest on so i can get my face back to where it’s supposed to be.”
“i trust god. it’s all for a reason,” he concluded. “i’m not sure what that is right now, but in the meantime i’m going to rest … i have hope.”

in a separate post to his instagram stories, the peaches singer revealed he was having trouble eating.

“been getting progressively harder to eat, which has been extremely frustrating, please pray for me,” he wrote.

charles nduka, a consultant plastic reconstructive surgeon in britain and the co-founder of health charity facial palsy uk, told reuters that roughly 75% of patients with the syndrome can make a full recovery if they receive early treatment, including steroids and antiviral medication.

nduka added that bieber’s recovery is likely going to sideline the 28-year-old for quite some time.

“they will be under financial pressures and all sorts of pressures to get back out there as soon as possible, but doing so will only lead to longer term problems,” he said.

when bieber announced his toronto shows were being postponed earlier this week, he said he was heartbroken.

“can’t believe i’m saying this. i’ve done everything to get better, but my sickness is getting worse. my heart breaks that i will have to postpone these next few shows (doctor’s orders). to all my people, i love you so much, and i’m going to rest and get better.”

in march, justin’s wife hailey suffered her own health scare after being hospitalized for suffering from a mini-stroke .

after undergoing surgery to close the hole in her heart, hailey returned to the spotlight at the met gala last month, where she reassured fans she’s feeling much better and her operation had gone “very smoothly.”
