montreal-based singer-songwriter basia bulat will perform on the rooftop of the rialto theatre sept. 26. local indie music hero patrick watson will return after a 10-year break with another edition of sacred sundays at 10 a.m. (!!!) and 10 p.m. on sept. 29 with watson and special guests playing an experimental repertoire of sacred and spiritual hymns. new york city-based chinese singer-songwriter, performance artist and dj alice longyu gao will be at the piccolo rialto sept. 26.
those are just a few of the shows that have been added to the lineup of the 23rd edition of pop montreal, which is set to take place in a wide and as usual eclectic array of venues in the plateau sept. 25-29. the entire programming was unveiled on tuesday.
the festival will also include the canadian premiere of the feature documentary bam bam: the sister nancy story, director alison duke’s look at the legendary dancehall artist sister nancy that includes interviews with janelle monáe, young guru and pete rock.
previously announced shows include:
- gospel/folk singer iris dement at the rialto theatre sept. 25;
- producer, dj and rapper mannie fresh at piccolo rialto sept. 27;
- acclaimed southwestern u.s. latin indie-rock outfit calexico play a “secret” house show (location to be announced only to ticket holders at a later date) for $200 sept. 28; and
- montreal legends stars and the dears will both be playing classic albums in their entirety, with stars running through set yourself on fire and the dears doing no cities left at the rialto theatre sept. 28.
