the gatineau hospital emergency room will reopen on sunday for daytime treatment for all patients, and limited nighttime treatment.
according to the outaouais integrated health and social services centre, the er will be open to all between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m., the emergency department will only see pregnant women, children under 18 years of age and those in urgent need of mental-health services.
during that nighttime period, those seeking urgent medical consultation who do not fit in one of those three categories are urged to visit emergency room hospitals in hull or papineau/buckingham.
pregnant women who are 20 weeks or more into their terms should go directly to the obstetrics department of the gatineau hospital.
the hospital’s emergency room was closed on june 25 due to a shortage of nurses. it reopened five days later, but only to the three groups mentioned above.
