accused killers among high-profile windsor court cases in 2025

from murder and manslaughter to fraud, sex offences and drug trafficking, the year ahead will see a number of high-profile criminal cases make their way before judges and juries in windsor courtrooms. here are just a few of the cases — trials and sentencing hearings among them — the windsor star will be following in the downtown courthouses in 2025. the canadian wheels of justice may sometimes appear to turn exceedingly slow, so a few 2026 trial dates have also been included.
 

charles holland

scheduled for jan. 13 sentencing on manslaughter conviction. originally charged with first-degree murder in nov. 14, 2023, stabbing death of common law spouse janice madison, 62, in their remington park home, charles holland, 63, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge at a nov. 20 court appearance.
a superior court justice heard holland readily confessed to his sisters and responding police officers that he had killed madison, but his severe drunkenness at the time of the horrid crime could have been used as a defence argument in any murder trial where he would have faced a life sentence upon conviction.
 

raheem washington

following a rare ‘fitness hearing’ in dec. 2021, a jury found raheem washington mentally unfit to stand trial for first-degree murder in the 2018 downtown death of a 37-year-old male who cannot be named under an interim court order.

washington, 28 at the time, was ordered to “remain in the care of a psychiatric facility” but be subjected to regular reviews of his mental illness status by a provincial board.
the fitness hearing decision was never meant as a “get-out-of-jail-free-card” his lawyer said at the time. washington’s case is back in windsor’s superior court of justice assignment court in january.
co-accused lamar day, also charged with murder, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter and was sentenced in february 2020 to six years in prison.
 

abdishakur harun

according to police, abdishakur harun was not involved in a multi-vehicle crash at a downtown intersection on nov. 18, 2021, but had been in a confrontation with one of the motorists immediately before. harun, then 33, was charged with first-degree murder and discharging a firearm. his jury trial begins in january.

ryan turgeon

a 12-member jury last april found windsor catholic high school religion and drama teacher ryan turgeon, then 36, guilty of sexual exploitation of a child, as well as making sexual material available to a person under the age of 18. a superior court justice announces his punishment in january.
 

david montes

in an expedited process, the crown moved by ‘direct indictment’ in the second-degree murder case of david montes, of leamington, who was 38 at the time opp discovered a deceased woman, sharmaine carling, 33, in her leamington home on sept. 29, 2022. his superior court trial, originally scheduled for four weeks, gets underway in windsor in april.

sushil kumar jain

a trial begins in july, but with continuation dates through november, for sushil kumar jain, 81 at the time the ex-president of south asian centre of windsor was arrested in february 2024 and charged with defrauding the charity of nearly $363,000 between 2011 and 2023. his defence lawyer said jain is innocent, it was a “misunderstanding.”

brian marbury
a three-week jury trial is scheduled in september for brian marbury, charged with murder and ‘offering indignity to a body’ in the death of his estranged wife, sahra bulle, 36 in spring 2023. the michigan man, 45 at the time, was arrested at the windsor-detroit tunnel on june 5, 2023, with bulle’s remains discovered near a windsor woodlot the next day.

fernando ratcliffe

eight-week jury trial set for january 2026 for fernando ratcliffe, charged with five counts of attempted murder in an incident that saw multiple people shot and injured outside super bowl lanes in east windsor in april 2022.
 

ramadhan nizigiyimana

six-week jury trial scheduled for january 2026 for ramadhan nizigiyimana, 29 years old when charged by windsor police with first-degree murder after being arrested outside a home in the 300 block of elliott street west on oct. 3, 2021.

an adult female known to the accused was found deceased. the case was the subject of a “fitness hearing” before a jury in august 2024, held to determine an accused’s fitness to stand trial.

malique calloo

four-week jury trial scheduled for march 2026 for malique calloo, charged with first-degree murder in the nov. 28, 2022, shooting death of daniel squalls, 24, on hanna street east. the windsor man, 26 at the time of the shooting, was a fugitive on canada’s bolo most-wanted list when he was arrested by the u.s. marshals service in michigan in july 2023 and then extradited to face trial.
