after days of long lines, more montreal test sites will go appointment-only

the viau clinic at the olympic stadium has already made the switch, and public health officials have indicated other sites will follow.

with montrealers lining up for hours at some covid-19 test clinics this week, local public health authorities say a number of the sites will be switching to only offering tests by appointment.
sonia bélanger, head of the centre-sud-de-l’île-de-montréal regional health authority, said during a press conference on thursday that the switch was being made because the facilities couldn’t keep up with the number of people looking to get screened.
she cited recent long lines at the chauveau clinic in montreal’s east end and the hôtel-dieu test site downtown.

bélanger urged montrealers to use rapid tests if they have them .

as of thursday, the viau clinic at the olympic stadium , which conducts drive-through testing, will only provide screening to people with appointments.

“this decision is made necessary due to the very high number of people coming to this clinic in recent days, creating traffic and safety problems around the clinic,” the est-de-l’île-de-montréal health authority said in a press release.
bélanger did not indicate which other test sites would switch to only offering appointments.
