with the holidays upon us, it’s time for many among us to get ready to travel to reunite with family and friends. the calgary airport authority is anticipating an average of 55,000 guests per day until jan. 3, and 1.5 million to pass through the facility in december alone, the organization said in a recent news release.
“we’re thrilled to extend a warm welcome to everyone travelling through yyc this holiday season,” said chris miles, chief operating officer of the calgary airport authority, in the release. “whether you’re off exploring new places, visiting loved ones or returning to familiar destinations, yyc and our partners are hard at work to ensure you have a safe and seamless journey through our airport.”
the airport authority also shared some tips to help ensure travel plans run smoothly.
book parking online and in advance via the calgary airport authority’s online parking reservation system.
there is also a resource called yyc express, which allows travellers to book their spots in the security line at the airport ahead of time.
kid zones are also available for families, along with quiet spaces located around the terminal.
yyc customer care ambassadors, white hat volunteers and pre-board pals are also all around the airport to help provide support.

the calgary international airport also offers accessibility assistance for people of all ages and disabilities.
travellers are urged to plan by checking with your airline for the most up-to-date information on flights and departure times before leaving for the airport.
arriving at the airport at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight will allow adequate time for check-in and security screening.

a seamless and memorable travel experience relies on all partners involved in the airport’s ecosystem, including airlines, security screeners, and border agents, the airport’s statement also said.
“catsa (canadian air transport security authority) is well staffed and prepared for the holiday travel season at the calgary international airport,” said josh budinski, catsa general manager of service delivery, prairies region. “we encourage all passengers to arrive at the airport early and to be prepared for security screening prior to their travels by going to the ‘what can i bring’ and ‘travel tips’ sections of our website at catsa.ca.”
international travellers flying into calgary can also save time by using an advance declaration. the service allows people to submit their customs and immigration declaration up to 72 hours in advance of their arrival to canada. learn more about declarations and exemption limits on the canada border services agency’s website.

“the cbsa is excited to welcome travellers to canada this holiday season. it is a busy time at the border so plan ahead and have your travel documents prepared,” said director lisa white. “be ready to declare any out-of-country purchases, including all gifts you are bringing into canada. remember to leave these gifts unwrapped or easily accessible in case our border services officers need to inspect the contents.”
