the essex county opp has named a new leader.
supt. mark loucas assumes responsibility for policing operations in five municipal contracts across the county, the police force said in a news release.
loucas began his career with the opp in 1996 in the greater toronto area. in 2005, loucas transferred to the opp emergency response team and in 2007 transitioned to the tactics and rescue unit in london.
he spent 14 years in the tactics and rescue unit, moving up the ranks to sergeant and staff sergeant before becoming an inspector.
loucas served as the detachment commander in chatham-kent and later in elgin county for two years before moving back to opp west region headquarters as the operational inspector and critical incident commander.
he joined the essex county opp as detachment commander on aug. 26.

in addition to a fleet of patrol cruisers, the essex county opp uses all-terrain vehicles, bicycles, motorcycles, and 40-, 23- and 16-foot boats to provide 24-hour policing services on the highways and waterways of essex county.
