the windsor-essex county health unit is reminding residents to follow public health measures while celebrating the holiday season.
in a written statement, the health unit this week said holiday gatherings heighten the risk of respiratory illness transmission.
“in previous years, the region has experienced large spikes in covid-19 activity in the month of january,” the health unit said. “in this regard, wechu is strongly encouraging residents to help prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses by taking proven effective measures to protect our most vulnerable over the holidays.”
the health unit asks that people stay home if they’re sick and maintain physical distance from others “as much as possible,” particularly around older adults, young children, and those with chronic health conditions.
those who have recently recovered from an illness or who are visiting someone at a higher risk of serious illness should wear a mask or face covering.
finally, stay up to date on vaccinations, including for covid-19 and the flu.
