quebec city — members of the national assembly unanimously adopted a motion this week stipulating that mothers have the absolute right to breastfeed their children in public places. presented by québec solidaire co-spokesperson manon massé, the motion condemns “any hindrance to this right.”
the mnas also took advantage of the occasion to encourage all “mothers who wish to do so to breastfeed in public places.”

the motion followed a recent incident at montreal’s eaton centre in which a security guard ejected a woman who was in the midst of breastfeeding her baby.

upset by the incident, the woman, isabelle côté, filed a complaint with the quebec human rights commission.
a demonstration was organized last sunday in front of the eaton centre to denounce the incident and to normalize women breastfeeding in public places.
