buckle up, things are about to get weird.

hordes of zombies, ghouls, and other sundry undead will swarm into downtown windsor next month for a zombie walk and parade.

“it’s about time we just enjoy our weirdness and wackiness and just have fun,” said shawn lippert, co-owner of scarehouse windsor, which is staging the local apocalypse.

the zombie walk and parade will invade downtown on oct. 19. the horror begins at 6 p.m.

the parade is an unholy expansion of scarehouse windsor’s original zombie walk, which ran from 2006 to 2014.

“it was resurrected from the dead — see what i just did there — in 2016,” said lippert. “we’ve been running it at the scarehouse since then.”

this year, lippert said ward 3 coun. renaldo agostino reached out to discuss doing the walk downtown and making it a parade with floats and mobs of zombies shambling down ouellette avenue and pitt and ferry streets.

there will also be prizes for best zombie, cutest zombie, and best zombie couple.

“it’s your typical parade, now outtake all the typical things you see in a parade and turn it into halloween,” said lippert. “our float from scarehouse is a travelling crypt with tombstones on it. we have a hearse that will be in it.

“not to mention, you’re going to have hundreds of zombies.”

if previous zombie walks are any indication, the city’s core will be overrun.

“last year for our event we had about 400 show up to do our walk,” said lippert. “we would just gather at scarehouse and walk up windsor street to jackson park, go through the park and have everybody stare at us and go, ‘what just happened?’”
