ottawa fire service were able to pluck two swimmers from the water about 200 metres from shore at britannia beach on wednesday afternoon.
a 911 caller reported at about 1:36 p.m. that a person was “drowning due to exhaustion.”
a bystander jumped into the water and helped the struggling swimmer get to a buoy, where they waited for assistance.
the fire services water rescue team and launched a fortuna rescue boat and safely brought both the stranded swimmer and the good samaritan back to shore at 1:48 p.m.
there were are no reported injuries.
