help out a worthy cause — and avoid the awkwardness of forgetting birthdays and anniversaries. the windsor professional firefighters association revealed their 2023 charity calendar on thursday, and a new partnership. the funds raised by this year’s initiative will go to the windsor-essex county humane society.
“it’s a great stocking stuffer,” said wayne currie, vice-president of the windsor firefighters association. “everyone needs a calendar to put in their important dates like anniversaries, birthdays. and we just feel it’s a nice way to help give back to our community.”
a group of firefighters helped announce the partnership thursday outside the humane society headquarters on provincial road.
there are 1,500 calendars are up for grabs. they will be available for $15 each or two for $20 at multiple sales events through the holiday season. currie said all the proceeds will go to the humane society.
“we have a responsibility to our community, so we have a giveback opportunity here,” he said. “this is what we do. we dedicate our time. everyone does this off duty. that’s what we’re all about. giving back to our community.”
and for the first time, the 2023 calendar is an equal opportunity effort.

“this year’s calendar is kind of unique,” said currie. “we always have questions about why there are no female firefighters in our calendars. well this year we have a couple of our female firefighters in there.”
details on sales event times and locations will be posted on the windsor firefighters facebook page and the humane society website.
