“it instantaneously inspires people — in a positive way — to get vaccinated. we’ve seen this in israel, in quebec and in france.”
vaccine passports have received support from every corner — legal, academic, economic and medical.
as it stands, children cannot attend public school in ontario unless their vaccination schedule is up to date, so it’s not as if there is no precedent here.
“the people who have been fully vaccinated and have been in lockdown and who have done everything asked of them during the pandemic — masking, distancing — they want their lives back. and they are the great majority,” said grinspun.
“and a vaccine mandate will slow the spread, and we urgently need that now. the risk is that hospitals will fill up again, and people who have waited 17 months for surgery will be delayed again.
“that is unconscionable. we have the public health tools at our disposal.”
the time for action is now, said grinspun, and the premier must not delay.
“i cannot imagine health minister christine elliott would not be on-side with this,” she added.
without mandated vaccination, we are headed for another lockdown by late fall, said grinspun.
and while there was no vaccine and no option during the first lockdowns, there’s no reason for this to happen now when vaccines are plentiful.
