cbs station kyw-tv says the younger sibling, kerry player, was “past due” her date of sept. 26, while the older sister, jennifer mercado, was induced early due to high blood pressure.
at 4:15 a.m. sunday morning, mercado brought daughter sophia rose into the world and seven hours later player’s daughter, karsyn grace, was born.
the two sisters, who were put in rooms next to each other at atlanticcare’s center for childbirth in pomona, were eventually discharged together.
naturally, both siblings, from cape may county, hoped they’d each give birth first.
“it was a real race for awhile,” mercado told kyw-tv.
“the midwife stopped in my room to say, ‘think your sister is going to be ready before you?’ and my nurse was like, ‘you better check her, i don’t think so.’”
mercado added: “if i hadn’t won i would have said there was no competition, but since i came in first the competition was there.”
