where is parrish?
where’s mississauga’s mayor? did the flood wash her away? carolyn parrish claimed to be a new and collaborative mayor, yet where is she with all the flooding occurring in mississauga? i didn’t see the mayor appear at the sites of any of the flooding events to offer help or relief to residents. hazel mccallion stayed awake for three days during the ’79 train derailment, yet parrish appears to nowhere to be seen during the severe weather. guess she’s a no-show for work, just like the mayor’s debates.

(the residents of mississauga got what they voted for)
need to do more
i am hearing more and more mayors blaming flooding issues on climate change and it is irritating. why did these mayors not convert parking lots to holding ponds for times of heavy rainfall or enact laws to force condo and office tower builders to incorporate large underground cisterns into their excavations to swallow street overflow and, later in dry times, pump back out to the sewer system. or even better, use as toilet water. i guess they’d rather whine and wring their hands.

(it is easier to blame your own inaction on climate change. one of these municipal leaders needs to step up)

serve your country
re “young guns” (chris doucette, aug. 22): teenage crime, shootings, robberies and our lenient justice system. what a mess. more basketball courts are not the answer. a firm hand is missing. there is a solution. mandatory military training for one year for all 18- to 30-year-old males. a weekly paycheque, discipline, physical fitness, travel and patriotism. what a wake-up call that would be. a win-win for our citizens, society and the country. an opportunity to learn a trade or get a free university education. and a population better prepared to defend canada if needed. where are our political leaders with vision?

(we are still looking for them. but mandatory national service will be hard sell)
