not so friendly skies federal transport minister anita anand is expressing outrage after air canada indicated it will charge some passengers fees for carry-on luggage starting in january 2025, so much so that she’s summoning airline ceos to a meeting in ottawa to presumably have them justify this practice. seems to me the federal liberals pulled a similar move with food industry ceos. we can only hope that the meeting with the airline ceos results in something meaningful, unlike what transpired following the “chat” with the food industry ceos regarding high grocery prices. those who have been near a grocery store lately know full well that food prices continue to escalate.

(what anand fails to even mention are the amount of fees imposed by the federal government on the cost of a single airline ticket)
days of giving
i either never heard of ‘giving tuesday,’ or my 77-year-old brain simply forgot it, but the giving tuesday promotion prompted me to ask myself why only one day a year is for giving? i think one of the reasons, and i write this as a (born again) christian, is that in the many times i have listened to sermons in many different types of christian churches in the past 47 years as a christian, i can’t remember one sermon where “works” was stressed, where the scriptures “faith without works is dead” and “love of money is the root of all evil” were quoted. maybe my old fogey memory is responsible, or maybe my memory is accurate, that being one reason why so many ‘church’ buildings are permanently closed, and why most churches i visit are attended by people my own age, plus or minus a few years, younger people appreciating doing valuable things with their time, not that the salvation message has no value, but we don’t need to hear it every time a preacher speaks. our nation needs change, and maybe that’s why the seemingly more active and involved muslim faith is growing, their quran also naming jesus christ as messiah, though that too is something not mentioned from the pulpits i have sat before. in any event, god help us, we are certainly in desperate need.
