keanu reeves and the windsor spitfires are seriously stretching the definition of the term over-ager.
the 59-year-old canadian movie star signed a one-day contract with the ohl team on thursday, decades after he tried out for the club.
reeves, who grew up in toronto, was a goalie but was unable to play for the spitfires due to injury.
the team announced his ceremonial signing on x, complete with photos of the john wick and matrix star signing a jersey before putting it on and holding his official contract.
“in a moment of happenstance, the windsor spitfires hockey club were finally able to add this former ontario hockey league goalie prospect, turned dogstar bass player, to their roster with a one-day contract! welcome to the #yqg keanu reeves!” the team posted on x.
while many will joke about the signing as a publicity stunt, it is for a good cause: all of the signed items will be put up for auction to help a local organization.
“signed items will be auctioned off with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the canadian mental health association – windsor,” the team said.

while reeves never got the opportunity to tend the twine for the ohl team, his first movie role actually gave him a chance to strap on the pads. reeves starred alongside rob lowe and patrick swayze in 1986 film youngblood .

reeves rose to fame in the 1990s with roles in point break and speed before becoming a megastar in the matrix movies.

he then found himself another massive franchise years later with the character john wick, playing an assassin who comes out of retirement to avenge his dog.
