while working to stay in shape or get back in shape, sometimes it’s difficult to keep up with a fitness regime due to injury or burnout. but a new philosophy of fitness called intuitive training aims to keep you fit without hurting yourself.
in some ways, intuitive training is self-explanatory. “ intuitive training means implementing real-time adjustments to workouts based on how your body feels,” said kate ligler, a san francisco-based endurance coach, in an interview with mic .

but intuitive training isn’t new either. many professional athletes use intuitive training to track their movements and tune into how they feel in order to stay in top form. some athletes use a technology called the omega wave that measures your body’s stats and gives you a “readiness” score.
rondel king, an exercise physiologist at the nyu langone sports performance center, told mic that intuitive training can help boost motivation to train on those days where you aren’t that into it. “there are some days that even if you’re not feeling it, you have to push through, and you can use the intuitive approach to help you,” said king. “but it’s not an excuse to skip working out. it’s a guide to keep you on track, injury free and progressing.”

intuitive training is a smarter way to work out based on what your body is telling you . you don’t have to go into “beast mode” or feel pressured to stick to a high intensity routine that wasn’t made for your body. this helps you to tune into how you feel for a workout, and make appropriate decisions for a smarter training session that both motivates your mind and improves your fitness.
