extending beyond my full capacity, i would be able to attend to 200 patients in a year. these 200 people are likely to see growth in one year, but the problem is a full year of 50-hour work weeks only connects me with 200 people when the need is far greater. consider that i am one of 4,700 psychiatrists in canada, and that this year it is estimated 2.8 million canadians will have reported symptoms of a mental illness. the math clearly falls well short. if every canadian psychiatrist were to give this same enormous output in 2020, a demoralizing two-thirds of mentally unwell canadians will not get the help they need.

as soon as i realized i could multiply the impact of my care by leveraging mobile technology, i was compelled to act. i realized that raising awareness about mental illness was no longer our most pressing societal need. canadians with mental health issues need help, and they need it now. so, i founded and designed a mental health tech solution, called headversity , that offers mobile, micro and measurable mental resilience training for the canadian workforce. the workplace was a natural starting point as it is ground zero for mental health today.
