kaylanna lipinski, who survived a rare cancer when she was five years old, developed jaundice three months after valentina was born, in october 2021. in hospital, doctors discovered she had a different rare cancer of the kidneys. it had spread to her liver and other parts of her body and treatment was unsuccessful. she died at age 19, on july 25. this is lipinski at the 2022 maple ridge secondary school graduation. she graduated in 2021 but missed grad due to covid-19. photo: hailey fitzsimmons
